Rajinikanth, the South Indian superstar, is no stranger to fame. His films have been seen by millions of people all over the world, and he has become a household name in India. But how much do we really know about him?

  1. Rajnikanth was born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad in Bangalore, India, on December 12th 1950. He was named after the 17th-century Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whom he considers to be his role model and hero.
  2. Before becoming an actor, Rajnikanth worked as a bus conductor in Bangalore’s Basavanagudi depot. His conductorship inspired many stories which later became movies like “Murattu Kaalai” (1980) and “Billa” (2007).
  3. He made his acting debut in 1975 with the Tamil movie “Apoorva Raagangal” (1975). The movie was a huge success and established him as one of the leading actors of Tamil cinema.
  4. He has acted in more than 160 movies across multiple languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Bengali. Some of his most popular movies include ‘Muthu’ (1995), ‘Chandramukhi’ (2005), ‘Sivaji’ (2007) and ‘Robo’ (2010).
  5. He is known for performing high voltage stunts without using any stunt doubles or stunt wires which have earned him the title ‘The King of Action’.
  6. In addition to acting, he has also produced several films under his own production company called RK Films which was founded in 1986 with his brother Satish Kumar Gaekwad who is an investor and film producer.
  7. He is one of the highest paid actors in Asia having earned upwards of ₹50 crore per film at one point during his career making him one of South Indian cinema’s most prolific earners and gaining him much recognition worldwide for being one of Asia’s highest grossing actors ever since he debuted onscreen in 1975!
  8. In 2014 he was awarded India’s third-highest civilian award Padma Bhushan by President Pranab Mukherjee for his contribution to Indian cinema making him only the third south Indian actor after Kamal Haasan & Akkineni Nagarjuna to receive this honour!
  9. He has won numerous awards for Best Actor including six Filmfare Awards South for Best Actor – Tamil from 1984 till 2018!
  10. He is also an active philanthropist supporting various causes such as education , health care , women empowerment , rural development etc through charities like The Rajnikanth Charitable Trust & Sri Raghavendra Charitable trust among others !
