The last month of 2022 will bring some huge new movies to the service, including major blockbuster movies that you’ve only been able to see in theaters until now. Here are our top eight picks of which movies to watch in December 2022.

This preview will be split into two halves. We’ll first cover our most anticipated global Netflix Originals releasing in December 2022, then move on to four licensed titles releasing specifically on Netflix in the United States. Availability of these licensed titles in other regions may vary.

Netflix’s smashing sequel to Knives out is in theaters over Thanksgiving weekend, but if you plan on watching on Netflix itself, you’ll have to wait until Dec. 23.

The sequel, which is receiving critical acclaim (one of us included), is bound to become one of Netflix’s greatest films of all time and will see the return of Rian Johnson to the director’s chair and Daniel Craig.

The second part follows world-famous detective Benoit Blanc as he heads to Greece to unravel the layers of a mystery surrounding a tech billionaire and his eclectic group of friends.

Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro

Coming to Netflix: December 9

You’re probably super familiar with the story of Pinocchio. Still, we encourage you to drop all preconceived notions in this revamped, stop-motion animated film from Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.

The film sees a father’s wish come true and magically bring a wooden boy to life in Italy, giving him the chance to care for the child.

Voices heard throughout the nearly 2-hour epic include Gregory Mann, Ewan McGregor, Ron Perlman, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, and Tilda Swinton

Coming to Netflix: December 30

Can Noah Baumbach do the impossible by writing and directing source material previously called unadaptable? We’ll find out at the end of December.

Based on the book by Don DeLillo, it sees a seemingly ordinary family struggle with an uncertain reality.

Some behind-the-scenes controversies and mixed reviews will mean this movie probably won’t cut it for everyone, but with the talent in front of and behind the camera, it’s definitely a movie to watch.

Netflix’s animated Christmas movies have been spectacular in recent years Klaus be one of the best movies Netflix has ever released. The new animated title that adapts Charles Dickens’ well-known story hopes to continue that trend beginning this month.

From director Stephen Donnelly, the movie is set on Christmas Eve and sees Ebenezer Scrooge face a potentially bleak future by going back in time and, hopefully, righting his wrongs.

As part of the Sony deal, Brad Pitt’s Summer Epic is coming to Netflix US. Bullet train.

The action comedy is about a hapless assassin who commits himself to one last job, only to become involved in a plot that pits him against multiple other assassins on a speeding train.

The film is based on the novel by Kōtarō Isaka, with whom Netflix has collaborated by adapting A seesaw monsterstarring Selma Hayek Pinault and Anne Hathaway.

Emily the criminal (2022)

Coming to Netflix: December 7

Emily the Criminal, the critically acclaimed crime drama starring Aubrey Plaza, will make its SVOD debut in December exclusively on Netflix.

Here’s what you can expect from the movie directed by John Patton Ford:

“Saddled with student debt and barred from the job market due to a minor criminal record, Emily becomes involved in a credit card fraud that draws her into the Los Angeles criminal underworld, with ultimately deadly consequences.”

After ever happy (2022)

Coming to Netflix: 25th of December

The third and final SVOD debut in this list is After ever happythe fourth entry in the incredibly popular teen romantic film franchise.

Whether this film will appeal to you at all depends on your experience with the first few. If you didn’t like those before, you definitely won’t like this one.

Unfortunately, Netflix isn’t the best place to watch it all After movies more, as the first recently went out of service, but numbers 2 and 3 remain available.

Prisoners (2013)

Coming to Netflix: December 10

The only non-SVOD debut we’ve included on this list is Prisoners, the 2013 mystery thriller from the director of Dune and Blade Runner 2049Dennis Villeneuve.

The film, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, is about the kidnapping of two young girls in Pennsylvania and the search for the suspected kidnapper by the police and a desperate father.

The movie wasn’t a big hit at the box office, but was a critical darling, even being featured in IndieWire’s Best of the Year.
