Fatorda: With a spate of COVID-19 cases in the bio bubble here, ATK Mohun Bagan’s Indian Super League match against Bengaluru FC was postponed hours before their kick-off here on Saturday.
This was their second consecutive game that was postponed. It wasn’t until last Saturday that ATKMB’s game against Odisha FC had to be postponed after an unnamed player reported positive for COVID-19.
“Hero Indian Super League (ISL) announces the postponement of the match between ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC scheduled for Saturday at PJN Stadium, Fatorda,” ATKMB said in a statement.
“Each match is judged on a number of factors, including the ability of the clubs to build a team; the severity of the COVID-19 outbreak in the club(s); and the ability of club personnel to prepare and play the game safely.”
“The health and safety of all staff in various ‘bubbles remains our priority, and the League & clubs will continue to monitor the situation and act accordingly.”
As many as four ATKMB players in the bio-safe bubble here are reportedly positive, as the Juan Ferrando-coached side was locked in their rooms for a week without a single training session.
Players from other teams including FC Goa, Bengaluru FC and Odisha FC also contracted the coronavirus, while SC East Bengal also self-isolated after their hotel staff tested positive in the bio bubble.
The fifth-seeded ATKMB has 15 points, five points less than leaders Kerala Blasters two games behind the Mariners.
