Northeast United FCThe disappointing run continued as they let go of an early advantage, losing 2-3 to Jamshedpur FC in Day 51 of the 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League (ISL) season at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim, Goa . Deshorn Brown scored twice in the match but it was not enough and Jamshedpur FC, who were clearly the dominant side throughout the match, earned three valuable points in the dramatic game. Jordan Murray, Boris Singh Thangjam and Ishan Pandita scored for the Red Miners.
The Highlanders had an almost perfect start as their star player Deshorn Brown continued his good form from the last game and broke the deadlock in the 4e minute to give NEUFC an early advantage. Just minutes later, Jamshedpur had a chance to equalize, but Jordan Murray’s wide header prevented them from missing an easy chance. However, he made up for it just before half-time when a free kick from Greg Stewart met a brilliant header from Murray and sent the ball into the back of the net.
The Red Miners were clearly the better side today and created several chances. Boris Singh Thangjam scored their second goal in the 56e minute to give Jamshedpur FC the lead. They failed to capitalize on several opportunities and a late goal by Deshorn Brown in stoppage time nearly ended the game in a draw. But some belated exploits from match hero Ishan Pandita, who scored the winner in the closing moments of stoppage time, helped Jamshedpur FC earn three valuable points and move to third in the points table.
Jamshedpur FC will face SC East Bengal next Tuesday and NEUFC, currently in tenth place, has more than a week to regroup against FC Goa on January 14.
