Basseterre (St Kitts)Skipper Tom Perst crushed an unbeaten 154 as former champions England advanced to the Super League quarter-finals of the ICC U-19 World Cup with a thumping 189-run victory over the UAE here.
Perst continued his incredible form, taking England to a massive 362 for six after opting to bat.
The English bowlers, led by leg spinner Rehan Ahmed (4/30), then made a disciplined attempt to outplay the UAE for 173 in 38.2 overs.
Perst threw 13 fours and four sixes in his sparkling 119 ball innings, while Jacob Bethell (62), William Luxton (47) and George Thomas (41) were also in the game as the winners of the 1998 England edition put down an impressive total .
Bethell and Thomas gave England a blistering start, adding 69 runs in 11.5 overs.
The Young Lions total always looked like it would be in high demand to overhaul and the UAE faltered when they were reduced to 61 for five in the 15th over.
Ali Naseer’s counter attack 54 off 44 balls helped reverse some of the momentum as he set up 59 with Nilansh Keswani for the sixth wicket.

However, the Afghans got the pace of their innings all wrong in their response, with 215 in the indicated 50 overs.
The top three sucked up way too many balls in pursuit of the goal. They needed 170 balls to make 100 runs, with Bilal Sayedi (42 out of 81), Nangeyalia Kharote (12 out of 32) and Allah Noor (28 out of 49) keeping the pass rate below 58.
Despite the slow start, Afghanistan took the game deep, although their innings were marked by some wild running between the wickets, with three runouts and a number of near misses.
Noor Ahmad shot three sixes to let his side in with a shot at a shocking win, taking 28 of the last two overs with two wickets in hand.
But when he fell for 29 to Awais Ali, the bowlers’ pick at three for 36, there would be only one winner.
