Flipkart Knocks Out Amazon In the First Week of the Festive Sale


The Wal-Mart-owned Flipkart has beaten Amazon in the first week of the big annual sale of both the companies between October 16 and 21, as per the reports. Flipkart is estimated to have gained a little above double the sales of its closest rival, Amazon.

The combined gross sales by both the e-commerce companies accounted for Rs 29,000 crores in the sales week, which is a 55 % year-on-year growth in their sales. But Flipkart captured 68% of the gross merchandise value during the period.

The company had already said that this year the number of transacting sellers was 1.5 times more than the previous year, and amongst them, at least 35% have registered three times sale. Out of the ten million shipments made by the company, 3.5 million of them were delivered by its grocery partners.

The company and its subsidiary Myntra would resume their Diwali Sales for a week from October 29 onwards.
