Xiaomi released MIUI 12.5 beta based on Android 11 for the Redmi Note 8 a few days ago. The company has also pushed a similar update to the Redmi Note 8 Pro not long ago.
All this, however, is happening in China, where both the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro are undergoing MIUI 12.5 beta testing ahead of the stable rollout later this quarter or in Q2 2021.
We have a detailed coverage on if and when your device will be receiving the update to MIUI 12.5 here.
Before MIUI 12.5 arrives, Redmi Note 8 users have an MIUI 12 update to enjoy, at least for those on the global variant of the device.
Towards the end of last year, Xiaomi released a stable MIUI 12 update for this device but it turned out to be buggy, forcing the company to roll back the firmware.
It happened that the issue was only affecting Redmi Note 8 users on build 188.8.131.52, something that Xiaomi started fixing by pushing a small incremental MIUI 184.108.40.206 update to the device.
With device owners growing frustrated after a long wait for MIUI 12 to arrive, Xiaomi had to act quick, thus promising them an update to the said firmware in early January 2021.
Indeed, an update was rolled out last week, but it happened to be a target for those on the initial MIUI 12 build that was halted. Well, the wait is now over for those who got bumped to MIUI 220.127.116.11.
As per the latest reports, Xiaomi is now rolling out MIUI 12 update to global Redmi Note 8 units that are stuck on MIUI 18.104.22.168. The update, just like the one rolled out earlier this week, bears version 22.214.171.124.QCOMIXM.
Since this update is rolling out over the air, it will reach global Note 8 units at different intervals. You can either wait for the OTA or grab the firmware via the download link below and install it manually.
