New Delhi: Hockey India Friday announced a new likely core group for the senior women’s team that will play in many major international tournaments this year.
The group was selected after selection trials held at Sports Authority of India, Bengaluru, for a group of 60 individuals who were selected based on their performance in various national events.
“It’s time for us to start over and plan for the future. We have grown over the past year with our experience in Tokyo and we must continue to develop and grow in the coming years ahead of Paris 2024,” said Janneke Schopman, head coach of the Indian women’s team, in a Hockey India press release.
While an 18-man Indian team led by Savita will travel to Muscat for the upcoming Asia Cup women’s hockey, the remaining players of the core group will remain in camp and continue training for the FIH Hockey Pro League games to be played next month. in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha.
“The upcoming camp is important for us to recognize the players who are ready to show their skills on the biggest stages, as well as work on the areas where we need to improve,” said Schopman.
