What’s New for 2023?
For the 2023 model year, a facelift offers the Palisade a more angular appearance. The fresh appearance is complemented by improved wheel designs, and the inside has gotten additional amenities. Pricing and Which One to Buy
The XRT model is a new addition to the list for 2018, however the SEL with the Premium package would be our Palisade of choice. It brings the largest infotainment screen, in-dash navigation, and Hyundai’s most advanced driver-assistance systems to the SUV.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Standard on the Palisade is a 3.8-liter V-6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine’s 291 horsepower provides sufficient acceleration for this type of vehicle. The Palisade’s transmission can be manually shifted using paddles mounted on the steering wheel. The transmission changes well on its own, although there is a significant amount of ratio shuffling when climbing hills. All-wheel drive is optional on the SE, SEL, and Limited trim levels, but standard on the Calligraphy. Front-wheel drive is standard. All Palisade models include a gearbox cooler, trailer pre-wiring, and sway control as standard equipment. It can pull up to 5,000 pounds when equipped with a trailer hitch provided by the dealer. Our test drive of a fully-equipped Calligraphy model in Asheville, North Carolina highlighted the Palisade’s smooth ride and quiet cabin; we even tried some mild off-roading and were happy that the large SUV can handle terrain beyond the urban jungle. We evaluated an all-wheel-drive SEL on our test track, and its acceleration performance were average. In our tests, the Palisade accelerated from zero to sixty miles per hour in 6.9 seconds and required 182 feet to stop from seventy miles per hour. It was somewhat faster than the Telluride, but slower than the Chevrolet Traverse.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
In terms of fuel economy, the front-wheel-drive Palisade achieves a rating of 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The Palisade is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway when equipped with all-wheel drive.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The SE and SEL trims feature seating for eight passengers, whilst the Limited and Calligraphy have captain’s seats in the second row, reducing passenger capacity to seven. In either case, there is ample space for passengers in all three rows. The second row is equipped with a button that allows for fast access to the third row. The doors allow a great deal of wind noise to enter, but they effectively block road noise. Optional on the SEL, power-folding second- and third-row seats are standard on the Limited and Calligraphy. With all seats folded, the Palisade has a cargo volume of 86 cubic feet, and it can store 33 carry-on luggage. With the second row upright and the third row folded, total storage volume is 46 cubic feet. With the third row occupied, the volume is reduced to 18 cu ft. There is storage room beneath the cargo floor for damp or muddy objects. The door compartments are small, but there is adequate storage space within and beneath the central console.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Standard on all grades is a 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, in-dash navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. Up to seven USB ports are provided, and two Bluetooth devices can be connected concurrently. When fitted with Hyundai’s Blue Link app service, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant can be used to remotely lock, unlock, and start the Palisade.
