Lucie Arnaz Weighs In on Lucille Ball Casting Controversy

Lucie Arnaz has asked everyone to relax. When the fans worked up about the casting of the upcoming film ‘Being Ricardos’, the daughter of Lucie Ball and Desi Arnaz gave a message through Facebook on Sunday. The film was written and will be directed by Aaron Sorkin.

After reports that Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem would play Ball and Arnaz, some fans had taken to social media and have suggested other actresses for the role of Ball. Een Debra Messing has campaigned for the part. She had earlier played Ball’s I Love Lucy character during an episode of Will and Grace.

But Lucie has shared on Sunday that it was a done deal. Lucie had said that she is very happy with the casting and fans shall understand that it’s not a remake of I Love Lucy. She went on to explain that people shall understand that the upcoming Amazon Studios film is about her mother and father Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnaz and not about Lucy Ricardo and Ricky Ricardo.

The film is said to have humor in it. It’s about how the two met, and what went right and what went wrong. It’s about their relationship, their love. It is for sure going to have I Love Lucy in it, and Aaron Sorkin has set it on the stage of filming a week of rehearsal, spent in rehearsing and filming the show.

Lucie again repeated that very little of the show shall have the I Love Lucy type of stuff and also said that fans won’t be disappointed with it.

She went on to praising Aaron and said that she has done a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and that it’s just a little slice of life in their journey. It is not the whole story, as it is not a biopic from birth to death. It would just be a two-hour film, about two people, and some of the remarkable things of their life. She then urged that fans shall stop advising as to who shall play what role.

Finally, she asked the fans to show some trust in them and said that it will be a nice film and ended the message with a love you all note.
