In a shocking revelation, 20-year-old Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.
Manchester United took no time to make a statement and said Greenwood will not be playing or training while the police and the club are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the footage and an audio file currently on social media. has been circulating since Sunday.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: “Greater Manchester Police were notified earlier today (Sunday, January 30) of online images and videos on social media posted by a woman who reported being physically violence. An investigation has been launched and upon investigation we can confirm that a man in his twenties has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He is still in custody for questioning. The investigations are ongoing.”
A statement issued by United read: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or playing games until further notice.”
The club also said they would launch an investigation before announcing Greenwood’s suspension. The statement said: “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.
“We will not comment further until the facts are established. Manchester United do not condone any form of violence.”
The Premier League club’s statement comes in response to allegations posted in images and audio that are no longer viewable on a woman’s Instagram account. However, the audio clip is now available on YouTube and other platforms.
