Who Won Miss Universe 2023 tonight?

Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel, who is 28 years old and a fashion designer from Houston, Texas, won Miss Universe. She drove four hours from her home to the pageant.

Gabriel is a fashion designer, a model, and a sewing teacher. She is the first Filipina-American to win the Miss USA title. She has a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design with a minor in Fibers from the University of North Texas. She is the CEO of her own sustainable clothing line. Her goal is for women and young girls to be able to see themselves in her and be motivated to reach their goals by being themselves.

Gabriel was asked when she made the top five: “Miss Universe recently made a change that makes the next pageant more open to everyone by letting mothers and married women compete. What else do you want to change, and why?”

Her answer, which put her in the top three, was: “For me, since I’m 28 years old, I’d like to see the age go up. And that is the most you can do. It’s a beautiful thing, in my opinion. “If not now, when?” is my favourite saying. Because, as a woman, I don’t think age says anything about us. It’s neither yesterday nor tomorrow; it’s now. Now is the time.”

When she got to the top three, she was asked: “”If you win Miss Universe, what will you do to show that this is an organisation that helps people and moves forward?”

Her answer, which helped her win the contest, was: “I would use it to be a leader who changes things. I’ve been sewing for 13 years and am a very passionate designer. I use fashion as a force for good. When I make clothes, I use recycled materials to help cut down on pollution in my field.

I teach women who have been through human trafficking or domestic violence how to sew. And I say that because it’s so important to invest in other people, invest in our community, and use your unique skills to make a difference. We all have something unique, and when we plant those seeds in other people, we change them and use that as a way to bring about change.”
