Ministry of Sports teams visit to oversee preparations for Khelo India University Games ’22

Bengaluru: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports team visited JAIN Global Campus and JAIN Sports School last week to watch the preparation of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2022.

The teams met with the race directors and discussed the preparation of the event in the presence of Rohit Bhardwaj, Secretary-SAI. The tentative dates for the second edition of KIUG were also announced at the meeting scheduled from April 24 to May 3.

The hour-long meetings focused on site readiness, equipment and a special session with the match managers about the participants, number of matches, live broadcasts, age limits and any other challenges they faced.

An in-depth discussion of the participants’ local transportation, the Green-Corridor requirement by the state government, were among the topics discussed as part of the agenda.

Other discussions have revolved around including facilities in the sports stadiums, equipment for the inaugural event, invitations to the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.

The flow of events, pros and cons of the earmarked lands, according to the COVID 19 protocols for the events, were some of the other topics discussed extensively.

During the discussion session, Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India said: “KIUG is designed to encourage Indian youth to participate in sports and show their talent to the world. We must work together to ensure that the arrangements are safe and beneficial for the participants to ensure a smooth implementation of the KIUG 2022.”

“For KIUG 2022, our main focus is adhering to global sporting standards, maintaining a highly professional approach, fair play and a willingness to run this massive sporting event smoothly,” said Rohit Bhardwaj, Secretary-SAI.

“We are closely monitoring the progress with the JAIN Group and working together towards the same goal. So far the planning and executions are according to the speculated timeline, we discussed a few points today and we extend our full support to the team for smooth execution of the event plans on time,” he added.
