Kohima: As the first of its kind, the Department of Youth Resources and Sports hosted a Grassroot Football Festival titled ‘Baby League’ at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on May 14.
The department’s initiative is aimed at nurturing young sports talents of the state.
According to the department, there was a participation of 120 children in the baby competition, including 85 boys and 35 girls, from the age group under 12. The children were supervised by three state football coaches from the department.
The participating teams were divided into different categories such as U-12, U-10 and U-6 age groups.
Dovo Chase, deputy director of Youth Resources and Sports, said the festival was set up to nurture professional footballers and also nurture young talents.
He said the festival aims to grow a new generation of players and provide a platform for the kids to enjoy the football game on the artificial grass pitch.
He also informed us that the second phase of the festival would also be organized in the coming months.
