NEUFC loses high scoring thriller to Jamshedpur FC

In a close match, Jamshedpur FC defeated a battling NorthEast United FC to earn three points in their 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League (ISL) match at the PJN Stadium in Margao, Goa on Friday. With this win, Jamshedpur FC has thirty-four points and now needs only 1 point to guarantee play-off qualification for the first time in their history. Despite NEUFC having most of the ball throughout the game, NEUFC was unable to avoid another defeat in what has been an unforgettable season. It was a high-grossing thriller. Len Doungel, Stewart and Murray scored the three goals for Jamshedpur FC, while Laldanmawia Ralte and Marcelinho scored the two goals for the Highlanders.

The first half was slow and lacked any aggressiveness from either team. However, a sharp header from Seiminlen Doungel helped Jamshedpur FC break the deadlock and go into halftime with a goal. In the second half, the pace of the game took a different turn, with both teams going head-to-head. A great display of individual brilliance by Greg Stewart meant Jamshedpur FC scored their second in the 58e minute. It seemed all but over for the Highlanders, but they certainly had other plans. Two goals in two minutes from the NEUFC boys and they were there. First Laldanmawia Ralte scored from a loose ball and then Marcelinho kept his composure to score the equalizer. Both teams all went out to score the winner, but it was Jamshedpur’s Jordan Murray who had the last laugh and scored to win the match for The Red Miners. Ricky Lallawmawma was named the hero of the match.
