New Delhi: The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has decided to fund 14 non-Olympic event shooters for the upcoming ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany.
India will field a 51-strong contingent in the main event of the international junior shooting calendar, which will take place in the German city from 9-20 May.
“51 shooters have been selected by the NRAI on the basis of the top three rankings. Of them, 37 for Olympic events are sponsored by the Sports Authority of India and 14 for non-Olympic events are sponsored by NRAI,” NRAI Secretary General K Sultan Singh said in a statement.
“We strongly believe that such high-quality exposure at a young age will only help them develop parallel skills for Olympic events in the future. Several such examples have been seen in the past. In addition, you never know exactly which event will become an Olympic event in the future,” the statement said.
The Indian squad, which includes big names like Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker, will also be joined by a 15-strong support contingent of coaches, physios and trainers.
