Assam cricket’s blue-eyed boy Riyan Parago made history on Saturday when he became the first-ever Northeast Indian cricketer to exceed the ‘Crore’ salary in the Indian Premier League.
In a bidding war that lasted for quite some time between Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, it was his former team Rajasthan Royals that finally placed the winning bid and got it for the sum of Rs 3.8 crore.
Today is day 1 of the auctions and with two new teams in the tournament, Indian players are in high demand. Riyan Parag represents Assam in domestic cricket and was also part of the India Under-19 squad that won the 2018 World Cup.
Twenty-year-old Riyan has been a part of the Rajasthan Royals since the 2019 season and has played a few match-winning blows for his team. An avid gamer, Riyan has played 30 IPL matches and scored 339 runs to date, including half a century.
His antics on the pitch, including his Bihu dance, have also received a lot of media attention in recent seasons. Riyan’s father Parag Das has also played first-class cricket for Assam.
