Square Enix showed a lot of new games and none of them was Final Fantasy XVI

At Sony’s State of Play presentation in March, Square Enix debuted two new games, showed gameplay trailers for two more, and completely ignored the two games most people were looking forward to.

Prior to its March 15 release, Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin gets its third and final demo. The unfathomably long-titled game (which has been shortened to an equally impractical one) SOPFFO) is an action RPG created in collaboration with Nioh developer Team Ninja. SOPFFO is a darker, bloodier version of the first Final Fantasy game from the perspective of the villain, Garland. The grim, Chaos-obsessed protagonist and use of Frank Sinatra’s 1969 hit “My Way” has loved SOPFFO nasty Final Fantasy diehards eager to find out what other craziness the game contains. During the State of Play presentation, Square Enix revealed a glimpse of new jobs Garland can learn and announced the new demo available now.

Square Enix also showed new gameplay from pronounced, the isekai RPG developed by Luminous Productions. In the gameplay trailer, Frey takes on countless bad guys using her talking power bracelet and a pair of souped-up sneakers that give her a cool parkour-esque double jump. pronounced was delayed five months from the May 23 release date, citing the need to “focus all our efforts on polishing the game† It will be launched on October 11.

Hot on the heels of Triangle strategySquare Enix premiered another high-fantasy three warring nations tactics RPG The DioField Chronicle† Billed as a real-time tactical combat strategy game, The DioField Chronicle has character designers from Final Fantasy XII and XIII and sound design by Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi. While no specific release date has been announced, The DioField Chronicle is scheduled for release later this year.

Sony ended its presentation with another new game from Square Enix – Valkyrie Elysium† It’s the latest entry in the Valkyrie series that debuted on PlayStation 22 years ago with Valkyrie Profile† It is an action RPG set in a fantasy world where Ragnarok looms. Like The DioField ChronicleValkyrie Elysium is also slated for release in 2022.

Surprising (or perhaps unsurprisingly) is the Square Enix portion of this state of affairs, with a pronounced focus on games developed in Japan, didn’t provide news on Final Fantasy VII Remake 2 or Final Fantasy XVI – the two most anticipated games from the developer. Square Enix just released FFVIIR‘s side story DLC Intergrade in June of last year, so maybe it needs more breathing room before the news of the remake’s second entry drops. But the Final Fantasy developers said more news about XVI would be forthcoming in the spring of 2022which is technically now-ish.

Spring doesn’t officially start for 11 days in the Northern Hemisphere, so we may have to wait until then.
