Stranger Things season 4 behind the scenes
A slow trickle of Stranger Things news has been coming out in recent months, with behind-the-scenes updates on the writing staff’s progress. Now we’ve learned when Netflix wants to start filming Stranger things season 5.
So far, production on the fifth season was not expected to start until 2023, with David Harbor (who plays Hopper) telling GQ Magazine:
‘I think we will [shoot] next year. They’re done writing this year, and they have to prepare and stuff, so hopefully it will be this year. But I think that’s the plan. So it would probably come out in mid-2024, based on our track record.
Production Weekly Issue 1326, released on December 1, now confirms that Netflix is currently filming Season 5 as of “Mid-May 2023”.
That coincides with Netflix’s conclusion The electrical state filming (which will star Millie Bobby Brown), which is due to be completed in mid-April 2023.
No end dates have been given, but previous seasons (excluding Season 4) have taken about 5-6 months to run.
The production list also states that the series will continue to film in Atlanta, Georgia, as it did in previous seasons. PW mentions that production will take place at EUE/Screen Gems Studios Atlanta Studio, home of Stranger things since Season 1. The 33-acre Atlanta studio complex features 11 stages and was the first full-service production studio campus to open in Atlanta.
As a reminder, production dates can change significantly.
At the time of writing, the writers are currently hard at work on the fifth season, which will have a slightly lower number of episodes compared to season 4, reduced from 9 to 8.
As of December 2022, we’ve seen the schedule grid for Season 5 of Stranger Things and the script draft of the first episode, “Chapter One: The Crawl,” written by The Duffer Brothers.
