The message continues, “As we bid farewell to the most difficult and heartbreaking year our band has ever experienced, we are reminded of how grateful we are for the people we love and cherish most, as well as those who are no longer with us.”

“Without Taylor, we would have never become the band that we were, and we know that without Taylor, we will be a different band in the future,” the statement continues. “We also know that the fans were as important to Taylor as he was to them. And we know that when we meet you again, which will be soon, he will be with us every night in spirit.”

This is the first public acknowledgment that the band would continue without Hawkins, who passed away in March at the age of 50 while the band was touring in Colombia.

After two years as the drummer for Alanis Morissette, Hawkins joined Foo Fighters in 1997 and rapidly became a vital element of the rock band’s sound and image. Grohl held two star-studded tribute concerts for Hawkins in London and Los Angeles, with performances by Morissette, Joan Jett, Josh Homme, Travis Barker, Def Leppard, Wolfgang Van Halen, Pink, Stewart Copeland, Miley Cyrus, and Chad Smith, as well as members of Queen, Motley Crue, Soundgarden, Rush, Metallica, and Black Sabbath.
