Tony Khan, the president of Ring of Honor (ROH) and AEW, announced on Twitter that Jay Briscoe, a legend in independent professional wrestling and one half of one of the best tag teams of the last 20 years, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 38. Jay Briscoe was a member of one of the best tag teams of the last 20 years. The reason for Jay Briscoe passing has not been disclosed.

Briscoe, whose actual name is Jamin Pugh, once held the title of ROH tag team champions alongside his brother Mark. It was their 13th reign as victors in the competition that had become virtually associated with them. The first reign of The Briscoe Brothers in Ring of Honor took place in 2003, and Jay Briscoe appeared on the very first ROH card in 2002.

“With deepest condolences, Jamin Pugh has left us,” Khan wrote on Twitter. “Fans know him as Jay Briscoe, and he has been a star in ROH for almost 20 years, beginning with the very first show and continuing up until the present day. Jay Briscoe and his brother Mark were so dominant in ROH that they continue to hold the titles even today. We are going to help out his family in every way that we can. Jamin, may you rest in peace.”

Pugh, who was born in Maryland but has lived in Sussex County, Delaware, for a significant portion of his life, was inducted into the ROH Hall of Fame in the previous year and held the title of ROH world champion twice in the past. Additionally, he was a champion in both the New Japan Pro-Wrestling and the Impact Wrestling promotions. The Briscoe Brothers are widely regarded as one of the greatest tag teams in the history of the sport who have never competed for WWE.

The Briscoe Brothers competed against AEW tag team FTR for the ROH tag team titles in the previous year, and it was one of the most exciting fights ever seen anywhere in the world. The trilogy began with a regular match, then moved on to a two-of-three falls match, and then concluded with a dog collar match. The Briscoes were victorious in the third competition, which allowed them to reclaim their belts.

Throughout the years, the team has had several notable storylines with tag teams such as the Young Bucks, the Motor City Machine Guns, the Second City Saints, and Kevin Steen and El Generico (now Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, respectively) (CM Punk and Colt Cabana).

Pugh successfully defended his ROH world title against Samoa Joe, Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, and Tommaso Ciampa during his second run as champion during his 286-day ROH world title reign.
