There will be a record number of record-breakers at the CMT Awards in 2022

Underwood now has a career-high 25 CMT Music Awards under her belt, more than any other performer.

If I Didn’t Love You” by Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean won video of the year at the 2022 CMT Music Awards. It was a collaboration with John Legend called “Hallelujah” that won this category last year.

Collaborative video of the year went to Underwood and Aldean. Neither artist has ever won in that category before. To date, she’s earned three Grammys for her work with country music’s biggest names, including Brad Paisley (“Remind Me,” “Somethin’ Bad,” and “The Fighter”). The Only Way I Know” by Aldean and Luke Bryan and Eric Church was previously a winner.

Underwood has now won 25 CMT Music Awards, more than any other artist in the history of the show.

Another two-award-winning act was Cody Johnson, who won male video of the year for “Til You Can’t” and digital first for “Dear Rodeo” from CMT Campfire Sessions. Luke Bryan, Kane Brown and Thomas Rhett had all previously won the award for male video of the year, but Johnson beat them all to take the title this year.

“If I Was a Cowboy” by Lambert was named the best female music video of the year. Underwood, who has won eight times in the category, is in second place with six wins. Lambert beat Gabby Barrett, who won last year’s award for “Footprints on the Moon.” Barrett took home the award for “The Good Ones” the year prior to this one.

“Woman You Got” by Maddie & Tae was a surprising (and astonished) winner for group/duo video of the year at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Dan + Shay, the three-time winner for duo video of the year; Zac Brown Band and Old Dominion, the two-time winners for group video of the year; and a host of other high-profile acts. Group and duet honours were merged for the second year in a row this year.

Taylor Swift’s “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” was named the year’s most popular comeback song. Her re-recorded album Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is highlighted by this song. A video of the year and female video of the year award were given to Swift’s original “Love Story” in 2009. The “comeback song of the year” award recognises “iconic stars and their successes that have not only endured the test of time, but have recently gained new popularity,” as described by CMT. “The Best Day (Taylor’s Version)” from Fearless (Taylor’s Version) won best family feature at last year’s Grammy Awards.
