The IPL this season is creating history on throwing surprises, and one such incident has sparked confusion among players on Thursday night during the SRH vs. KXIP match. The dismissal of Mujeeb in the 14th over brought in a confusing twist in the match.
It so happened that on the fifth ball of the 14th over, there were two reviews taken regarding the dismissal of Afghanistan’s all-rounder. When SRH’s fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed gave a full delivery, Mujeeb tried to dig it out and brought his bat down. But the ball landed in the wicket-keeper Johny Bairstow’s hands, and as usual, there was an appeal made for a catch out, but the umpire turned it down.
But when surprisingly, the SRH captain David Warner did not take the DRS, the on-field umpire went upstairs. The third umpire could not view the ultra edge as it was an umpire review. And as there was nothing to check if the ball hit the bat, Mujeeb was given out.
Mujeeb was reminded of the DRS and opted for the review. This time the TV umpire got into action and has access to the ultra-edge. The decision suggested that there was a noise heard as the ball passed the bat, and so Mujeeb was out.
