US coronavirus cases approach 6 million as Midwest, schools face outbreaks

The COVID-19 cases had touched six million on Sunday, like many states in the Midwest reported an increase in the infections. States of North Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota saw a record one-day rise in the coronavirus cases while the states of Idaho and Montana saw a spike in the number of hospitalized patients.

Overall, there has been a decrease in the number of new cases and also in the death rate in the country, but there are many hotspots for the virus emerging here and there. Also, there is a decline in the number of hospitalized patients. But the opening of the schools and colleges for the in-person classes has led to the spread of the virus.

The increase in the number of positive cases is found in places where the students have returned to campus for studies. The outbreak is also noticed after the bike rally in Sturgis in South Dakota where about 3.65 million people from all over the country took part in between August 7 and August 16.
