When his mother, Diana, perished in a horrific vehicle accident in a Paris tunnel, the Duke of Sussex was just 12 years old.

He acknowledges in "Spare" that he spent the ensuing decades trying to piece together what actually transpired on that fatal night, only to be talked out of reopening the princess's death investigation.

To recreate their mother's dying moments, he and his brother, Prince William, drove through the Pont de l'Alma, the scene of Diana's accident.

The young princes were living with their grandparents, Queen Elizabeth, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

When Diana passed away, the young princes were at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where they were living with their grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

With nothing to do but wander the castle and think to myself, a hunch developed and eventually solidified into a belief, according to Harry.
