Itanagar: Weightlifters from Arunachal Pradesh continue to shine in the ongoing Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth, Junior and Senior Championship-2022 as Markio Tario won one gold and silver for the state on Day 4 of the competition on Thursday.
Markio (18) who competed in the 67 kg senior weight category has lifted a total of 286 kg (Snatch: 128 Kg + Clean and Jerk: 158 Kg) to be crowned National Champion.
Born in Tali village in Kra-Daadi district, Markio was also crowned National Weightlifting Champion in the youth and junior categories in 2019.
He had also won gold in the U-21, 67 kg boys category in the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games 2020.
Meanwhile, the IWF Youth, Junior and Senior Championship was in Bhubaneswar. Odisha had previously witnessed Boni Mangkhiya, the female weightlifter from Arunachal, set a national record by lifting a total of 171kg in the 55kg weight category.
Boni, who had lifted a similar weight in the junior category, won two gold medals in the competition.
Other weightlifters who have won medals for Arunachal in the championship so far include Shankar Lapung who won silver by lifting a total of 248kg in the 61kg youth weight category and Golom Tinku and Bengia Tani who each won bronze.
More than 800 weightlifters from 30 states will participate in the competition, the qualifier for the 5th edition of Khelo India Youth Games, 2022 to be held later this year.
This championship ends on March 31.
