Zombie fans will want to speed up any first binge Z nationas it has just been announced that the show will depart completely in January 2023. Here’s when it’s leaving, why it’s leaving, and why you should watch it before it leaves.
Created by Aslyum for Syfy, Z nation begins with a group of survivors after three years of a zombie pandemic. A team embarks on a perilous mission across the country to transport the only man to survive a deadly zombie virus, in hopes of holding the key to a vaccine.
The show ran for a total of five seasons spread over a total of 68 episodes.
The series has been streaming on Netflix since 2015 with new seasons added every year. The fifth and final season came on January 27, 2019.
The expiration of Netflix in the United States coincides with the fourth anniversary since the last season appeared on Netflix. As you may know, legacy deals Netflix had with distributors meant that Netflix held title rights for the life of the show plus several years after that.
The show will depart in full on January 27, 2023, with your last full day to watch the series on Netflix on January 26.

Will all Netflix regions lose Z Nation in January 2023?
No, only the United States for now.
Our sources indicate that in international regions such as the United Kingdom, Netflix holds the rights to Z Nation until 2024. We hear it will remain on Netflix in the UK until November 2024, for example.

What does this mean for Black summer?
For those who didn’t know, after the release of Z-Nation’s final season, a massive fan campaign took place to save the show. While that didn’t happen, Netflix did commission a show from Aslyum that served as a “spiritual successor” to Z-Nation in the form of Black Summer.
Unfortunately, the second season of Black summer was released in 2021 and since then we’ve had no word on the future of the show, but frankly it’s not looking good. Viewership statistics did not suggest it would be renewed, and given the lack of word from Netflix, Asylum or any of the cast; we suspect it’s ghost-cancelled.
