Charged NEUFC looking for nothing but a win

NorthEast United FC will be a refreshed unit as they make their first meeting in 2022, after a much-needed 9-day break, against Jamshedpur FC in matchday 51 of the 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League (ISL) season at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim, Goa.

The Highlanders will look to put their past achievements behind them and start 2022 off right. Also Jamshedpur FC would not be very happy with their recent performance as they have not won any of their last three matches. Today’s game starts at 7:30 PM IST. It will be broadcast live on Star Sports Network, Disney+ Hotstar and Jio TV.

NEUFC this season was dominated by injuries and not taking advantage of opportunities. Their inconsistent run has hurt them a lot, but the unit plays with a positive attitude and tries to change things up. NEUFC Head Coach Khalid Jamil does not want to think much about the past games and only looks ahead. Before the match, he said: “We are already thinking about the next game, and we should not think about the past or the future, we should think about the present: the game we are playing against Jamshedpur FC. So it’s best to think about this, and then we’ll fight for everything, and it’ll be fine very soon.”

Jamil also believes that the break was much needed and will help their game. He said: “Yes, we are ready to play, we have used this break for recovery because we played matches continuously and we got this time. It was especially good for the team, also mentally and physically. So we are prepared for this match.”

Deshorn Brown is in sweltering form after his brilliant hat-trick against Mumbai City FC and will be key to NEUFC’s chances in this match as well. Both teams have faced each other eight times. Jamshedpur FC won two of these matches while NEUFC won once. The rest of the games ended in a draw.
