Fast and Furious 9 teaser: This 4-second shot took 8 months of preparation, 3 cars were destroyed

On Monday, a new teaser of the upcoming movie Fast and Furious 9 was shared on the internet. The teaser was first played during the Super Bowl. The movie’s director, Justin Lin tweeted about a shot shown in the teaser. He said that a particular money shot shown in the teaser has had a lot of work going into it.

The teaser was for 30 seconds, which included a 4-second shot where the car is being thrown into a building and it smashes through the other side, and into a passing truck. Lin said, that the shot was not executed via CGI and that it was performed.

He shared some behind-the-scenes look as to how the stunt was practically done. He informed that the stunt took 8 months of preparation, 4 days of production, and 3 cars were destroyed to get the scene right. He also appreciated the crew as very talented and dedicated and said that they have delivered the best job in the world! The clip showed how real cars flung around the set and also concluded the final version of the shot.

The movie was originally set for a release in 2020 but was pushed due to the pandemic. It is currently slated to get released in May, but the teaser has only mentioned ‘coming soon to theatres’ and no date was specified. The delay in the release was announced by Vin Diesel on social media. he said that though fans all over the world were waiting for the release, it won’t be viable to do so in the pandemic situation and the move was important keeping in mind the safety of everyone. 

The movie stars Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Chris ‘Ludracis’ Bridges, John Cena, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, and Charlie Theron. The film is set to pick up after the events of ‘The Fate of the Furious’ which got released in 2017.
