The inaugural Mens Hockey World Cup was played in Barcelona, Spain in 1971. The World Cup has been staged every four years since that time. The 1986 World Cup was notable because it was the first time a significant hockey competition was played on artificial grass. However, a hockey game was played on artificial grass for the first time during the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. The quadrennial mega-event will be hosted by India for the fourth time, which is the most, followed by the Netherlands with three.
FIH HockeyWorld Cup 2023
On January 13, 2023, the FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 is scheduled to start. The International Hockey Federation organized the 2023 FIH Hockey World Cup. The celebration will last through January 29th, 2023. In the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup championship game, Belgium defeated the Netherlands. This time, the FIH Hockey World Cup will be held in India in 2023. The games will take place in the Indian cities of Rourkela and Bhubneshwar.

The 2023 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup will be hosted by the Indian state of Odisha. The matches will take place at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar and Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.
Hockey World Cup 2023 Teams and format
16 teams will take part in the Hockey World Cup. These teams have been divided into four pools consisting of four teams each.
Teams will play each other once in the pool stage and group winners will straight qualify for the quarter-finals. The second and third placed sides from each pool will compete in cross-overs from where four more teams will reach the quarter-finals.

Pool B: Belgium, Germany, South Korea, and Japan.
Pool C: Netherlands, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Chile.
