Earlier, Krishnappa Gowtham had played for Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and 2019. In 2020, Punjab Kings had picked him up.

The Karnataka all-rounder has featured in 62 T20s in his career and has cumulated 594 runs at a strike rate of 159.24. He also has 41 wickets under his belt in the shortest format at 35.41 and an economy rate of 7.60 runs per over.

Krishnappa Gowtham comes in as another all-rounder in a CSK lineup full of star-like Ravindra Jadeja, D Bravo, and Sam Curran.

While Jadeja is still out injured, Bravo and Curran are likely to makeit the starting XI and Gowtham could come in if Jadeja does not achieve match fitness.
