IPL gives Pant, Thakur heavy fines, Amre suspended for a match

Bombay: Captain of Delhi Capitals Rishabh Pant and pacer Shardul Thakur were fined on Saturday, while assistant coach Pravin Amre was given a one-match suspension for violating the IPL code of conduct while losing 15 points from their match against Rajasthan Royals.

While Pant and Amre have been fined for their full match money, Thakur was fined 50 percent of his match money, IPL said in a press release.

Drama ensued in the final over of the game on Friday when the third delivery, a hip-high full toss from Obed McCoy, was beaten by Rovman Powell for a six, but the DC camp demanded it be called a no ball for height.

It started with Kuldeep Yadav, who was on the non-striker’s end, gesturing to the umpires to check for a possible no-ball at height. Powell also went to chat with the umpires. But the umpires stood their ground and said the delivery was legal.

Pant then motioned for Powell and Kuldeep to come out as Amre entered the playing arena.

Pant admitted to the “Level 2 violation” under Article 2.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct and “accepted the sanction”.

Thakur also accepted the sanction for the “Level 2 violation under Article 2.8” of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.
