Bengaluru: Stylish Indian international Shreyas Iyer predictably became the highest paid player among the tent set with Kolkata Knight Riders taking a whopping Rs 12.25 crore after an intense price war at the Indian Premier League auctioned here on Saturday.
Iyer’s entry into KKR fold secures a captaincy for them, while the Shah Rukh Khan co-owner of the franchise also got Australian frontrunner Pat Cummins back for half the price of Rs 7.25 crore.
One of the biggest winners was South African pacesetter Kagiso Rabada who raised over a million dollars when Punjab Kings successfully bought it for Rs 9.25 crore.
As was known, senior Indian players got some great bids with Shikhar Dhawan getting Rs 8.25 crore from Punjab Kings.
Ravichandran Ashwin also got Rs 5 crore winning bid from Rajasthan Royals while Trent Boult, bowling with his left arm swing, laughed his way to the bench with a handsome Rs 8 crore bid from Rajasthan Royals.
Mohamed Shami was taken by Gujarat Titans for Rs 6.75 crore, the same amount Lucknow Giants paid for Quinton de Kock.
