After getting inoculated by the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine, more than 12400 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Israel. The count includes 69 people who have taken their second jab.
The Ministry of Israel had tested 189,000 people after they received vaccination and 6.6 % of people tested positive for Covid-19. Earlier too, Nachman Ash, the National Coordinator on the pandemic had said that the vaccine by Pfizer was less effective than what was thought.
The vaccine drive was launched on December 19 in Israel, with a specific focus on elderly people, especially those with some risky medical conditions and some emergency workers. It is noteworthy that a quarter of the population has received the first dose of the Pfizer Inc. Vaccine and at least 3.5 % have already got their second dose, according to the health officials.
According to Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, since the rollout of the vaccinations a month ago, the Jewish state has inoculated more than 2.2 million of its 9 million inhabitants.
The country is in its III lockdown with high infection rates. More than half a million cases have been reported and over 4005 people have died in Israel since the beginning of the pandemic.
Despite the lockdown and vaccinations, there has been a rise in the infection rate due to the virus mutation and negligence on the part of people in following pandemic regulations. Israel has committed to share with the US-German manufacturer to share data on the effects of the mass immunization in return for rapid delivery of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
