Kohima: After the success of the first-ever Kohima inter-departmental badminton tournament last October, the state capital is all set to witness the second edition on July 22-23 at the multi-purpose hall of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Shanavas C, deputy commissioner of Kohima and chairman of Inter Department Badminton Club (IDBC), said: “This year there will be four categories: Men’s Doubles (two teams from each division), Women’s Doubles (one team from each division), Mixed Doubles (one team from each department), and 50+, legislators and retirees.
The winners will receive Rs 15,000 while runners-up will receive Rs 10,000 each. The application fee is set at Rs 1000. The last date of submission of the form is 13th July. Forms are available here.
The annual tournament, he said, should ensure coordination between government departments as convergence of all departments is needed.
The first edition has helped build a friendly relationship between government employees, he said. Three children, who are badminton enthusiasts, are provided with badminton sets. He said that in this edition more children will probably receive the badminton uniforms.
As the organizer of the tournament, Shanavas C also encouraged all departments to send members to participate. A condition for participation is that two state players are not allowed to form a team.
To nurture young sports talents, Shanavas C, who is the head of the district sports council, said the council will make efforts to support talents.
