Kohima: The quarter-finals of the on-going Kohima Super Cup 2022 will take place on Saturday as eight teams qualify for the league matches, shattering 9 teams’ dreams of clinching the coveted championship title.
Until Friday, the matches were played on a knockout basis. From the quarter-finals onwards, the competition matches for the cup organized by the Kohima Town Club (KTC) start. The best two teams from the two groups advance to the semi-finals after a round of three matches.
The qualifying teams in Pool-A are New Market FC, Hurricane Boys Phesama, Sechü FC Academy, G Sports FC and in Pool-B are Barak FC, A Yhome FC, Magdaline Coaching FC and Aphuyemi FC.
Magdaline Coaching FC won Friday’s match against Pro-D-OG’s FC 5-3. In the second match of the day, Aphuyemi FC defeated the Naga brothers 21–0.
The match registered the first-ever triple hat-trick of the tournament by Aphuyemi FC’s Toka Achumi. Captain Lironthung Lotha and the youngest 14-year-old Vinato Achumi both scored hat-tricks in the match.
Previously, Magdaline Coaching FC’s Dupisa Pucho also scored a hat-trick in the game against Pro-D-OG’s FC.
On Saturday, New Market FC will face A Yhome FC at 11:30 AM and Sechü FC Academy will face G Sports FC at 1:30 PM at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima.
