Mary Kom withdraws from CWG investigations after leg injury

New Delhi: Veteran Indian Boxer MC Mary Kom was forced to withdraw midway through her Commonwealth Games 48kg trial on Friday following a leg injury.

The six-time world champion injured himself in the first round of the 48 kg semi-finals.

Haryana’s Nitu thus advanced to the final of the CWG trials at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium here.

The 2018 gold medalist Mary fell in the first round of the fight. The 39-year-old tried to carry on, but after a few punches, she struggled to keep her balance while holding her left leg.

She had to be carried out of the ring while the referee announced the win for Nitu by the referee stops the match (RSCI). She was taken to hospital for scans.

The most decorated Indian boxer had missed the World Championships and the Asian Games to focus on the CWG, to be held in Birmingham next month.
