Susan Sarandon on her support to farmer protests: ‘We must let India’s leaders know the world is watching’

Restating her support for the farmers, Hollywood veteran actor, Susan said that they stand with the farmers and that Indian leaders shall be aware of the fact that the entire world is watching them. She said that despite their attempts to silence the “most vulnerable” leaders of India should remember that they are watched by all. She had amplified her support for the ongoing farmer’s protest in India.

The veteran star became the latest international celebrity to back the agitation, after pop star Rihanna had triggered a wave of support for the farmers with tweets coming from global personalities, politicians, and activists. She took to Twitter late Saturday night and shared Al Jazeera’s news report, which read, “Free speech under threat as India clamps down on farmer protest.” She said in her tweet that corporate greed and exploitation has no boundaries, not just in the US but all over the world. While they are trying to silence the free speech w/ corp. media and politicians, Indian leaders shall know that the world is watching.

She captioned the post that we stand with farmers. She also had shared an explanation about who these farmers are and why are they protesting. The Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg, an American lawyer Meena Harris, actor Amanda Cerny, and singers Jay Sean, Dr. Zeus, and former adult star Mia Khalifa had lent their support to the protesting farmers.

The Indian govt. has criticized the tweets by Rihanna, saying that all facts must be ascertained before rushing to comment on any issue and it was neither accurate nor a responsible act on the part of the celebrity to do so.

It is noteworthy that tens of thousands of farmers are protesting on three borders of Delhi, the Indian Capital for a complete repeal of all three farm laws.
