Many children like to follow their parents’ profession. Cricketers’ children are not different. In the history of cricket, there have been many cricket families whose generations have played cricket. This also includes the father-son duos that have played the sports at a serious level.
T20 cricket is comparatively a newer format and was born in 2003. In the history of cricket, it shall be considered to have a young span of just 17 years, but we already have a few fathers and sons playing the format.
Below is the list of the top 5 father and son duos who have played the T20 format:
Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun Tendulkar
The Indian cricket Legend Sachin Tendulkar made his T20 debut in 2006, in India’s first-ever T20 match. India played against South Africa at Johannesburg. It was the only T20 match Sachin made only 10 runs and picked only one wicket. But after that until 2013, he played 96 T20s and made a score of 2797 runs with a strike rate of 121.08, which included one century and 16 half-centuries.
His son, Arjun Tendulkar, 21-year-old is a left-arm pacer and a left-handed batsman. He made his debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He has played only two T20s and has scored 3 runs and picked 2 wickets. He was recently bought by MI for his base price of INR 20 lakh in the IPL auction, 2021.
Makhaya Ntini and Thando Ntini
Makhaya Ntini is a former South African Pace bowler and has played 10 T20s during 2005-2011. He took 6 wickets in those matches. And meanwhile, the Proteas pacer played 60 T20s between 2004 and 2012 and took 63 wickets.
His son, Thando Ntini who is a right-arm fast bowler made his debut in 2018. He played for the Africa T20 cup. He took 5 wickets in 7 matches.
Darren Lehmann and Jake Lehmann
Darren, a former Australian cricketer who had also coached the national cricket team of Australia, never played a T20 International match as a player. But, in his late career, he had played 17 T20s from 2006-2008 which also included appearing in the IPL edition for Rajasthan Royals. During those matches, he scored 381 runs with a strike rate of 117.95 and took 11 wickets.
Jake Lehmann, his 28-year-old son had played 30 T20 matches. He made his debut in 2016. Till now he has scored 267 runs with a strike rate of 108.97 and has taken just one wicket.
Moin Khan and Azam Khan
Moin Khan, the former Pakistani wicket–keeper batsman, was considered as one of the best wicket-keepers in the history of international cricket. He did not play a T20 International match, but he experienced 5 T20s in the year 2005 where he scored 221 runs with a strike rate of 156.73. he became the first Pakistani batsman to make a score of 112 runs in a T20.
Just like the father, Azam khan, who is 22-year-old is also a wicket-keeper batsman. He made his T20 debut in 2019, and have played 31 T20s, and scored 645 runs, with a strike rate of 159.65, which includes 4 half-centuries.
Dominic Cork and Greg Cork
Dominic Cork, a former England cricketer was a right-arm pacer and a right-handed lower-order batsman and he too never experienced a T20 International match. But he had played 82 T20 matches between 2003 and 2011, in which he picked 73 wickets.
His son, Greg Cork, on the other hand, made his T20 debut in 2014. Till now he has managed to taken 8 wickets.
